Come be the friendly face commanding our check-in process! You'll greet clients as they arrive for surgery drop-off, pick-up, or vaccination appointments, help keep them organized, and manage our computer-based check-in system—all from the comfort of our enclosed booth, equipped with fans and a small A/C unit.

Using a laptop and spreadsheet, you’ll ensure a smooth, timely flow by checking pets in and providing clear directions. Clients pull into specific parking lanes based on their service, and you’ll guide them to the correct lane after check-in while coordinating with our Pet Arrival Coordinator volunteer to keep everything running smoothly.

Ideal Volunteer Traits:

Prompt and dependable.

Great with multitasking and staying organized in a fast-paced environment.

Comfortable using laptops, spreadsheets, etc.

Excellent communicator—speaks with clients in a clear, calm, and compassionate manner.

Able to work independently and make quick decisions.

Volunteer Responsibilities Include:

Greeting clients, inquiring about their service, and keeping them organized.

Checking clients in using a laptop and online spreadsheet.

Answering client questions with warmth and professionalism (radioing to front desk as needed).

Coordinating with the parking lot greeter to maintain flow.

Guiding vehicles to correct parking lanes.

Supporting our amazing PRCKC team by helping check-ins run smoothly.

Support our spay/neuter team by taking pets to/from their owners' vehicles. This is the best way to get some hands-on time with the pets in our clinic!  Morning Pet Runners will also discuss pick-up times and collect documents from clients, as well as helping get pets weighed and examined. Afternoon Pet Runners will deliver the clients' invoice and pet's paperwork, and will be responsible for explaining the paperwork and how to care for the pet after surgery. Previous dog handling training is preferred but not required.

Volunteers must:

PRCKC is excited to introduce a new volunteer role: the Resource Receptionist!

This volunteer helps create a warm, welcoming environment for clients and community members entering the clinic while assisting with pet resources and general support needs.

Stationed at a small desk in the lobby, the Resource Receptionist serves as a friendly first point of contact for guests needing assistance with things like:

Pet food and suppliesLeashes, collars, litter, and other donated resourcesInformation about PRCKC servicesCommunity pet-related resources and support options

This role is all about helping people (and their pets!) feel seen, supported, and cared for.

Help us keep our clinic organized and stocked with supplies for our veterinary team. Assistants help with a variety of tasks ranging from sorting donations, filling food pantry orders (prepping/packaging food), organizing and prepping vet supplies (syringes, plastic cone collars, etc.), sanitizing work areas, doing laundry, and assisting with general clean up. 

Volunteers in this role must:

be able to work independently and stay on task have some organizational skills enjoy helping with a variety of hands-on tasks be willing/able to take direction from staff

Training takes place on-the-job. Sign up for a shift and  a staff member or experienced volunteer will be assigned to train you.

NOTE: Mondays are pack/supply prep ONLY. No surgeries are performed on Mondays.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a vet tech? Get an insider's look and become part of an amazing team when you volunteer for Spay/Neuter Clinic Asistant (SNCA)! Spay/Neuter Clinic Assistants are responsible for a wide variety of tasks that make the vet techs' jobs easier, including: Cleaning and sorting surgical instruments and E.T. tubesStocking to-go-home meds Prepping/stocking s/n clinic suppliesPrepping surgery pack materials (sugical towels & drape, etc.) Recovery (monitoring dogs or cats post-surgery) Sanitizing/resetting kennels at end of day Other tasks as needed

Volunteers will start their training in the pack prep area: cleaning and sorting surgical instruments, cutting surgical drape and caring for/prepping other items used during surgeries. Once these skills are mastered, volunteers will be invited to start shadowing the vet techs in recovery, if interested.

Volunteers in this role must:

This is a quick, one-hour opportunity on weekdays!

The veterinary team needs help with re-setting and re-stocking at the end of their busy days. This volunteer would come in at the end of the day and refill all spray bottles, stock the towel warmer and do a final laundry check, stock fluid warmer, stock syringes, stock pill bottles, fill distilled water, and re-set/prep machinery like the the autoclave and ultrasonic (surgical instrument cleansing/sanitizing machines). Some kennel cleaning, sweeping/mopping may also be needed.

Join us on the first Friday of each month for a "drive-thru style" vaccination clinic at the Jackson County Regional Animal Shelter in Independence! Volunteers help with traffic control, customer service, paperwork prep, taking payments, handing out resources, and more! Bilingual (Spanish) skills are a plus!

We utilize an indoor space at this location, but please note that the event is still a drive-thru, so some volunteer positions will still take place largely outdoors. If you work any of the outdoor positions, you will have opportunities to take breaks inside!

 

Get active in animal welfare! As an outreach volunteer, you will:

Assist the outreach team with tasks in the clinic: Sorting donations, prepping pet food and treats, cleaning and organizing the outreach/pantry space, and more.Assist clients coming in to the clinic needing assistance with pet food or other resources.Ride along with outreach staff to do deliveries, transport pets with medical needs to/from the clinic, wellness checks for outdoor pets in local neighborhoods, and more.

Volunteers must:

We are excited to partner with Uplift, an outreach program serving the houseless population in Kansas City. Uplift provides food, clothing, and access to other forms of care -- including providing for the needs of their clients' pets. That's where YOU come in!

Every Wednesday evening from 4:30 pm to approximately 9:30-10 pm, volunteers are needed to meet at our clinic, load supplies, then follow the Uplift truck in our PRCKC Transit van. Along the route, we will provide free vaccinations, microchips, pet food and other supplies to those in need. NOTE: We only go out on the 1st 4 Wednesdays of each month. We do not go out on any 5th Wednesday.

Volunteers will need to meet here at the clinic at 4:30 pm unless otherwise requested. You will join our dedicated Uplift team who will show you everything you need to know! You'll then head to the Uplift warehouse (1516 Prospect Ave. KCMO 64127) to get paired up with an Uplift truck. You'll follow a different truck and go on a different delivery route each week.

Volunteer Shift: 9:00 AM - 1:30 PM (including setup and teardown time)

Help represent PRCKC at Shawnee Town 1929 Museum for Dog Days of Summer, a fun, family-friendly event celebrating dogs and the people who love them! This annual community event features local pet vendors, rescue organizations, food trucks, live music, dog contests, splash pools, demonstrations, and more.

We're looking for 1–2 enthusiastic volunteers to help represent Pet Resource Center of Kansas City at our outreach booth. This is a wonderful opportunity to engage with pet owners, share information about our services and volunteer program, answer basic questions, and help connect more pets and families with the resources they need.

Volunteer Responsibilities Help transport and set up the PRCKC outreach booth before the event begins Welcome visitors and engage with community members throughout the event Share information about PRCKC's programs, services, and volunteer opportunities Distribute brochures, resources, and giveaways Assist with booth breakdown and loading supplies at the end of the event What to Expect Outdoor event on grass with periods of standing and walking August weather—please dress appropriately for the heat and stay hydrated Frequent interaction with community members and their dogs A fun, upbeat atmosphere with plenty of opportunities to meet fellow animal lovers Volunteer Requirements Friendly, outgoing, and comfortable speaking with the public Able to lift and carry outreach supplies, including a folding table, canopy, and storage bins (assistance is available if needed) Able to remain for the duration of the event Represent PRCKC with professionalism, compassion, and enthusiasm Additional Information Volunteers may be asked to stop by PRCKC prior to the event to help pick up outreach materials. ** Please note: Food Pantry is run as a drive-through service. Volunteers should be prepared to do at least some work outdoors, remain standing or walking for the duration of the event, and may be asked to do some heavy/bulky lifting.**

Our Pet Food Pantry distributes thousands of pounds of pet food yearly. We need volunteers to help work the pantry and get this food to the pet owners who need it! Pantry takes place here at our clinic.

Volunteers run our pantry. You may be asked to help set up, direct flow of cars, collect food and deliver to vehicles, possibly unload food from the box truck, and clean up after the pantry has ended.

Help represent PRCKC as we partner with Kansas City Public Library's Bookmobile to bring resources directly into the community!

Volunteers will help staff a PRCKC information table alongside the KCPL Bookmobile, engaging with community members and sharing information about our programs and services. This is a great opportunity for volunteers who enjoy talking with people, building community connections, and serving as ambassadors for PRCKC.

Join PRCKC for one of our most exciting fundraising events of the year! Mutts & Movies is a fun-filled evening at the Boulevard Drive-In featuring games, raffles, community partners, local vendors, and an outdoor movie—all while raising funds to support affordable veterinary care and pet resources for pets and families throughout our community.

Whether you're helping prepare the event before guests arrive or assisting throughout the evening, you'll play an important role in creating a welcoming, memorable experience for everyone who attends. 

Interested in helping even more? You're welcome to sign up for both volunteer shifts if you'd like to be part of the event from start to finish! Prefer a shorter commitment? That's great too—you can sign up for either shift based on what works best for your schedule.

Volunteer Responsibilities

Volunteers will serve as part of our Event Support Team and may assist with a variety of tasks throughout the evening, including:

Event setup and preparation Front gate check-in and in-person ticket sales Directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic Refilling dog water stations Selling raffle tickets and assisting with raffle tables Hosting carnival games and activities Assisting staff wherever additional help is needed

Rather than assigning volunteers to one specific role, our team will work together throughout the event and help wherever support is needed most.

Our goal is to serve as many pets as possible in a 4-5 hour period, which means working together as a team, staying flexible, and moving with purpose — all while keeping compassion and kindness at the center of what we do. These busy, high-impact events would absolutely not be possible without volunteer support.

This is a 1-doctor (so far!) drive-thru event, and with a strong volunteer team, we'll be able to help 120+ pets receive the care they need.

Represent PRCKC at one of the cutest dog events of the year!

The 2nd Annual Pawmazing Race brings together dogs, their humans, local businesses, rescues, and animal lovers from across the Kansas City area for a day full of fun around Historic Independence Square. Throughout the day, participants and their pups complete themed challenges while exploring the Square, shopping local vendors, enjoying treats, and meeting adoptable pets.

As a PRCKC volunteer, you'll help staff our community outreach booth by:

Greeting community members and answering questions about PRCKC Sharing information about our programs and services Talking with visitors about volunteer opportunities Handing out resources and promotional materials Helping set up and tear down our booth Creating a welcoming, friendly experience for everyone who stops by

NORTHLAND NEIGHBORHOODS INC. IS HOSTING US FOR ANOTHER PAWSITIVE PROTECTION EVENT WITH THE CITY OF KANSAS CITY ON SEPTEMBER 26, 2026!!

Join PRCKC and our community partners for a special Pawsitive Protection KC Event, where we'll be providing free vaccines and microchips to pets in need -- all at no cost to pet owners with proof of KCMO residency! This event is sponsored by Northland Neighborhoods Inc., and is part of a citywide initiative to make preventatives more accessible and help reduce pet illness and homelessness across the metro. Events like this special Saturday event are extremely important to our community, and we could NOT do it without incredible volunteers like you.

Note: Volunteers must have a reliable mode of transportation to drive their own vehicle to meet up with the team at the event's location. On slow business days, volunteer shifts may end early.

Volunteer with PRCKC at Kansas City's largest traditional Oktoberfest while raising money to support pets and families in our community!

Each year, KC Oktoberfest partners with local nonprofits by donating volunteer earnings directly back to participating organizations. For every hour you volunteer, $15 per hour is donated directly to PRCKC, helping us continue providing affordable veterinary care, pet food assistance, and lifesaving resources throughout our community.

Join us for a Drive-Thru Vaccination Clinic on Saturday, October 17th that takes place under the I-35 bridge near the Westside CAN Center! These clinics provide affordable, preventative care to pets in our community and make a huge difference for families who may otherwise not have access to veterinary services.

Volunteers play a critical role in making these events run smoothly and efficiently. During the clinic, volunteers assist with traffic flow, client customer service, paperwork prep, running pets, prepping vaccines, processing payments, handing out resources, and more!

Our goal is to serve as many pets as possible in a 4-5 hour period, which means working together as a team, staying flexible, and moving with purpose — all while keeping compassion and kindness at the center of what we do. These busy, high-impact events would absolutely not be possible without volunteer support.

This is a 1-doctor (so far!) drive-thru event, and with a strong volunteer team, we'll be able to help 120+ pets receive the care they need.

For folks who prefer to volunteer in their own home on their own time! There are a few ways to help from home:

Set up a time to come to the clinic and pick up donated supplies. Take them home and prepare them for our vet team to use. Bring them back within a couple weeks and pick up more! Items may include pill bottles to be washed, newspaper to be sorted for lining kennels, bed sheets to be cut and ripped into strings for ecollars (plastic cone collars). Peruse sites like Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor, Craigslist, etc. for pet items in good condition being given away for free. Kennels, carriers, litterboxes, toys, leashes, bowls -- anything that could help someone take good care of their pet. Safely pick up these free items and bring them to the clinic when you have time.
