Help Pet Resource Center of Kansas City raise funds to support pets and families in our community! Volunteers will assist with our Charity Yard Sale by helping organize donated items, greet shoppers, process purchases, answer questions about PRCKC, and create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone who stops by.

This is a fun, flexible opportunity that combines fundraising, community engagement, and teamwork. No prior experience is required!

Shift Options

Morning Shift: 7:00 AM - 11:00 AM 

Afternoon Shift: 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Volunteer Responsibilities Set up and organize donated items for sale Keep merchandise neat, organized, and easy to browse Welcome shoppers and answer basic questions Share information about PRCKC's programs and services Assist with purchases and handling cash transactions Help direct visitors to and through the sale area Promote a positive and friendly shopping experience Assist with general event tasks as needed Volunteers Should Be comfortable interacting with the public Have a friendly and welcoming attitude Be dependable and willing to jump in where needed Be able to stand and walk for portions/most of the shift Adhere to PRCKC Core Values: Be Kind, Build Trust, Show Compassion What to Wear

Please wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes appropriate for working outdoors. PRCKC apparel is encouraged if you have it.

Why Volunteer?

Every purchase made at the Charity Yard Sale helps support PRCKC's mission of keeping pets healthy and with the families who love them. Your time will directly support affordable veterinary care, pet food assistance, vaccinations, and other critical resources for pets and their people throughout our community.

Special Instructions / Additional Notes

This event will take place outdoors, so please dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes.

We recommend bringing a water bottle and any other items you may need to stay comfortable throughout your shift.

Please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes before your scheduled shift so we can provide a brief overview and get everyone assigned to tasks.

While we hope to have at least 3-4 volunteers per shift, additional volunteers are always welcome! Having extra helping hands allows us to keep the sale organized, provide a better experience for shoppers, and share more information about PRCKC's mission throughout the day.

We are excited to partner with Uplift, an outreach program serving the houseless population in Kansas City. Uplift provides food, clothing, and access to other forms of care -- including providing for the needs of their clients' pets. That's where YOU come in!

Every Wednesday evening from 4:30 pm to approximately 9:30-10 pm, volunteers are needed to meet at our clinic, load supplies, then follow the Uplift truck in our PRCKC Transit van. Along the route, we will provide free vaccinations, microchips, pet food and other supplies to those in need. NOTE: We only go out on the 1st 4 Wednesdays of each month. We do not go out on any 5th Wednesday.

Volunteers will need to meet here at the clinic at 4:30 pm unless otherwise requested. You will join our dedicated Uplift team who will show you everything you need to know! You'll then head to the Uplift warehouse (1516 Prospect Ave. KCMO 64127) to get paired up with an Uplift truck. You'll follow a different truck and go on a different delivery route each week.

Join us for a Drive-Thru Vaccination Clinic on Saturday, June 27th at the Bonner Springs YMCA! These clinics provide affordable, preventative care to pets in our community and make a huge difference for families who may otherwise not have access to veterinary services.

Volunteers play a critical role in making these events run smoothly and efficiently. During the clinic, volunteers assist with traffic flow, client customer service, paperwork prep, running pets, prepping vaccines, processing payments, handing out resources, and more!

Our goal is to serve as many pets as possible in a 4-5 hour period, which means working together as a team, staying flexible, and moving with purpose — all while keeping compassion and kindness at the center of what we do. These busy, high-impact events would absolutely not be possible without volunteer support.

This is a 1-doctor (so far!) drive-thru event, and with a strong volunteer team, we'll be able to help 120+ pets receive the care they need.

For folks who prefer to volunteer in their own home on their own time! There are a few ways to help from home:

Set up a time to come to the clinic and pick up donated supplies. Take them home and prepare them for our vet team to use. Bring them back within a couple weeks and pick up more! Items may include pill bottles to be washed, newspaper to be sorted for lining kennels, bed sheets to be cut and ripped into strings for ecollars (plastic cone collars). Peruse sites like Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist for pet items in good condition being given away for free. Kennels, carriers, litterboxes, toys, leashes, bowls -- anything that could help someone take good care of their pet. Safely pick up these free items and bring them to the clinic when you have time.
